The Muiscas saw gold as a gift from their gods that represented life force and the link to the spiritual cosmos, therefore its significance went beyond the purely tangible.
The Muisca raft, which represents the El Dorado celebration, and pottery "offering trays" are among the treasures of the Muiscas that were able to be spared from the Spanish colonists and recovered from their hiding places. These may today be seen at the Gold Museum in Bogotá. (Museo Del Oro | La Red Cultural Del Banco De La República, n.d.)
